One
aspect of the Beyond Spheres Project is to walk in Thoreau's
footsteps. We do this in part by using photographic processes
from the same era. One of these classic techniques is the
Calotype, which was invented by William Henry Fox Talbot
in 1839. This process, which uses a paper negative freshly
coated with photographic emulsion, requires immediate development.
In other words, we need a lab nearby. In order for us to
shoot in remote locations such as wilderness areas and national
parks, a darkroom van is a necessity. We see this mobile
laboratory as an essential tool for the attainment of our
goals, which include heightening awareness and appreciation
of the natural world through environmental and artistic
education.
